STUDENT LIFE SUMMITS (formerly Spiritual Emphasis Week)
As a Christian school our main goal is to help students build a relationship with Jesus Christ. We do this through daily Bible classes, weekly Chapel services, and quarterly Student Life Summits, where two full days are spent immersed in prayer, team building exercises, and God’s word.
SEE YOU AT THE POLE
LCA students come together for See You at the Pole, an annual meeting dedicated for public prayer. Students gather at the flagpole, usually at 9:00 am local time on the fourth Wednesday in September. This is a great place to connect with God, connect with other believers, and reconnect with your school in the name of Christ. This event is all about prayer; it’s about you coming together and laying aside all the labels and groups for one day, to simply connect with God in prayer and connect with fellow Christians in unity around the flag pole – whether jocks, preps, geeks, Methodists, Baptists, Catholics, sophomores, or seniors.
Each year LCA takes a group of its students to Mexico for a week-long missions trip. The students must raise their own funds, and many choose to send out sponsor letters to friends and family to enable them to participate. Under the leadership of Greg and Karen Miller, the students help build a house for a needy Mexican family. They also assist in local church services held in the evenings and help in other areas of need, such as a soup kitchen.
The trip is a priceless experience for our students, exposing them to the world beyond America and a culture and lifestyle in distinct contrast to their own. They are able to use their Spanish skills, and may have the opportunity to share the gospel with the Mexicans they meet. Passport Information

Just 5 minutes outside Brownsville, Texas and over the border lies Matamoros, Mexico. Matamoros is a frontier city which was founded in 1774 under the name of “San Juan de Los Esteros Hermosos”. Matamoros is named in honor of Don Mariano Matamoros, insurgent soldier and priest who died during the Mexican War of Independence.
Some things to expect
While on the trip students and sponsors will stay at Autel Nieto. After breakfast and devotions at the hotel a van shuttle will take everyone to the project house. Work will continue through the afternoon on the house with a break for lunch from the local “mercado”. In the afternoon there will be additional ministry projects from day to day. Dinner will be served in the late afternoon and an evening service will be attended at one of several local churches. Before leaving at the end of the week, the team will finish up the last minute details concerning the project house, visit the market, go to the area beach and bid farewell to new friends. If you have any questions regarding the mission, please call Mrs. Miller at (801)771-7141, ext. 542.
*The Mexico Missions trips have been suspended for the last several years due to unsettled conditions in Mexico. We hope to resume these missions trips in the near future.
